What is Reiki ?
Posted by Sian Pillay on
The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words ‘Rei’ meaning universal and ‘Ki’ meaning life energy. Reiki is a form of energy healing, whereby the Reiki practitioner channels Reiki through their hands in to the recipient, by hovering their hands over different chakras of the recipients body.
Chakras are different energy centres in the body that correspond to different internal organs and nerves as well as emotions and the mind. When chakras are blocked, the related functions and feelings will be adversely affected. Reiki clears blockages that disrupt energy flow, allowing healing to begin at a cellular level. This flow of energy promotes harmony, peace and overall physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Reiki is particularly useful to help ease physical pain and to bring healing to illness present in the body. It also helps to ease anxiety and depression.
In a reiki session you will lay down ( or sit if preferred), and close your eyes whilst the practitioner works. It is normal to fall asleep as reiki promotes relaxation. You may experience different sensations throughout the body such as tingling or heat. You may also see colours behind your eyes as the energy moves through your body.
